Ottawa Capital Fall Classic
November 6th saw the Tigers travel to Ottawa to compete in the Capital Fall Classic. 12 teams from all around the province came to with the spectacular trophy and medals.
After a long early morning drive the Tigers played their first game in this tournament. The Quinte West Hawks arrived the previous night and had the early jump as the Tigers struggled to regain their skating legs. As the game progressed the boys continued to press and the Hawks began to fade. With a tremendous push late in the game creating multiple scoring chances the Tigers came up short in a 2-0 loss. Gage Gonsalves was named the Tigers player of the game.
The second game had the Tigers facing the Upper Ottawa Valley Aces. The high scoring Aces hoped to give the Tigers a thrashing but after the first period Tigers 3 Aces 1. The Aces did not give up and continued to claw their way back into the game scoring late in the third period to tie the game. Calum Ormond was the player of the game.
Saturday morning had the Tigers facing the Eastern Ontario Cobras. The Cobras were sitting in first place in the tournament standings and the Tigers needed a win to push them forward in the tournament. The Tigers came out hard in the first period and took an early lead but the Cobras answered quickly. In the second period the Tigers again took the lead. As the game progressed the Tigers hung on through a lopsided penalty filled third period but a goal by the Cobras with less than 2 minutes remaining tied the score. An outstanding effort by Anthony Russo in the net earned him the player of the game.
The final game in this tournament for the Tigers saw them playing the Mississauga Braves. The Tigers came into this game hoping to make a statement and they did. Scoring two early goals and dominating the Braves with the balance of play. Out shooting the Braves 33-7 outscoring them 3-1, the Tigers finished their tournament rounds on a high note. Michael Crowe brought an excellent effort to garner the player of the game award.
