I would like to welcome all players and parents
to this year's Minor Bantam A tryouts. My name is Mike Dunbar and I feel
extremely privileged, honored and excited to have been given the opportunity
coach our Tigers this upcoming season.
Our tryouts will consist of 3 sessions:
May 1: 12:30pm – 2:00pm ACC1
May 2: 7:45pm – 9:15pm ACC2
May 5: 7:45pm – 9:15pm ACC2
Given the number of players expected at our first A tryout, all A players from last season will be excused from the on-ice session on May 1st. These players are expected to attend and participate in an off ice training session at ACC1. All A players from last season are to attend our second tryout on May 2nd.
All tryouts are
NON CONTACT. The first two tryouts will consist of a variety of drills and scrimmage time. Our last session will be an exhibition game against the Markham Minor Bantam A team (2003s). The AMHA dress code is in effect for that exhibition game.
It’s no secret that selecting a rep hockey team can be a very stressful time for all involved. Especially given the unique hockey community we’re fortunate enough to be a part of. To ensure fairness and impartiality, I have asked 4 independent evaluators with many years of rep hockey experience to help me select 15 players and 2 goalies. The AMHA will provide an additional 2 evaluators for players as well as another 2 evaluators specifically for the goalie position. I will be using all feedback provided to me as a part of this process. I will be looking for player ability in various hockey skills but will also take into account traits such as competitiveness, team play and
effort.
I will be updating the list of players that I would like to have back to our second tryout on the team website not later than 9pm on May 1st. The list of players that I would like to invite back to our third and final tryout will be updated no earlier than 4pm on May 4th. Our final roster will be listed between 4pm and midnight on May 6th.

May 12: 7:00pm – 8:30pm Exhibition Game vs. East Gwillimbury – more details to follow
May 26: 8:30pm Mandatory Tigerware / Jersey fitting – Lion Share Marketing, 16610 Bayview Avenue, Unit 8. Located one light south of Mulock on the west side of Bayview.
I will be arranging our first team meeting at the conclusion of our tryouts. At that meeting we will be discussing a variety of topics - volunteer help, fundraising, tournaments, etc... At this time, we can expect our budget to be approximately $2000 per family. My aim is to participate in at least 3 tournaments - an early bird, the AMHA Bantam tournament, and one where we take the team on the road.
