Playing AA hockey is a fast and challenging game. It requires a strong commitment from each player to improve and develop their hockey skills. They must also be committed to play and compete as a team.
TRYOUTS
There are 3 tryouts scheduled on the following dates:
• Monday, April 23rd at the ACC 2 (Lincoln) – 6:15 pm to 7:45 pm
• Thursday, April 26th at ACC 2 (Lincoln) – 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm
• Friday, April 27th at ACC 2 (Lincoln) – 5:30 pm (Exhibition game with Newmarket)
Please return all tryout jerseys shortly after each tryout.
EVALUATION
At each tryout, there will be a group of impartial evaluators and myself to assess the players. The evaluators have many years of experience of playing and coaching hockey. I have also asked Paul Rozalowsky to return as an assistant coach and he will be involved the tryouts. With their help, a team roster of between 15 and 17 athletes will be selected.
The tryouts are designed to evaluate the players on the following:
• Skating
• Puck control
• Passing
• Shooting
• Positioning
• Team play
• Goalie Skills
In the third tryout, it will be an exhibition game with players trying out for the Newmarket Atom AA team. The athletes will be evaluated on their hockey skills, positioning, team play and impact in the game.
After each tryout, a list of players (by their registration number) will be posted on the AMHA Atom AA webpage that have been asked back to the next tryout. If a player’s registration number is not listed then they have been directed (and encouraged) to attend the Atom A tryouts. Inquiries will be welcomed 48 hours after the end of each tryout.
The tryout results will be posted as follows:
Tryout 1 – Tuesday April 24th after 6pm
Tryout 2 – Thursday April 26th after 9:30pm
Tryout 3 - Friday April 27th after 9:30pm
EXPECTATION
If selected for the Atom AA team, players will be expected to try their best, be hockey focused and compete at every practice and game. The amount of ice time in a game for each player will be at the discretion of the coaches. The coaches will base their decisions on the player’s consistent level of effort, focus, attitude, skill, team play and/or game related situations. Players may also be encouraged to attend extra hockey training (such as power skating) in addition to regular team training and practices.
Subject to ice availability, the occasional hockey skill session and/or pre-season practice may be scheduled in August. An overnight training camp for the team is tentatively booked for the weekend of September 7th-9th.
Games, Practices and Tournaments
In addition to the scheduled regular season games and practices, we plan on participating in 2 to 4 tournaments. A tournament outside of Ontario (in Quebec or Michigan/New York) is being considered.
Tigerware Fitting
The team fitting is scheduled for Monday May 7th between 7:30pm and 9pm at Lion’s Share. The address is 16610 Bayview Avenue, Unit 8, Newmarket. (905) 235-5775
Financial
The estimated team budget is approximately $45,000. Fund raising and sponsorship can be used to offset the team’s expenses.
