Return to Hockey!
Submitted By Joanne Rey-Reiter on Wednesday, December 29, 2021
Good afternoon,

I am certainly hoping everyone is enjoying their holidays, I have enjoyed the downtime but equally eager to get back to the rink!

Here is what the framework and protocols look like for our return on Jan 2nd, 2022:

If someone on a team tests positive

  • Parents should notify the coach or manager immediately.
  • The Coach or manager must immediately notify your respective VP:
    • Corby for AA/A
    • Holly for AE/MD/Select
    • Kristy for House league
  • The respective VP will file a report with YSMHL/ OMHA; the public health unit will be advised.
  • Team must pause all hockey activities for 10 days
    • No games or practices, unless otherwise advised.
  • Opposing teams may be required to pause as well if direct contact.
  • Public health will issue letters to team members with current quarantine/testing protocols.
  • If a team fails to comply with the above, team and/or team officials could be sanctioned.

Affiliated or Non-rostered Players

  • Affiliated players (AP’s) are not permitted for games or practices until further notice.
  • Non-rostered players are not permitted to attend team practices until further notice.
  • No non-registered (Parent) volunteers on ice during practices.
  • Failure to comply will result in coach suspension.

Team Official Masks

  • Referees have been instructed to report any team officials not wearing masks during games.
  • Team Officials subject to suspension if they fail to comply.

Change Rooms

  • Change room behavior is being closely scrutinized as a source of COVID-19 infections.
  • Team Officials must take responsibility if we want to maintain access to change rooms.
  • Limit access to change rooms by non-players and non-essential personnel.
  • Enforce wearing of masks before and after on-ice sessions.

Away Games- Rep, AE/MD, Select

  • YSMHL Centres are being encouraged to report protocol non-compliance by visiting teams and
    their supporters to the League.
  • Local protocols are published on YSMHL and Association websites.
  • Please reinforce the need to comply with local protocols with players and parents.
We have been cleared to resume all hockey activities as it was before the pause of the season. Which
means, we are returning in January with minimal restrictions. Of course, this could change at any time
but I am confident that we will be far more diligent this time around as now, we have all experienced
what happens if we let our guard down. The only restrictions in place at this time are no AP's and
vending machines and snack bars are closed.

I/we will continue to keep you all informed as we garner the information from the YSMHL, OMHA, Town
of Aurora and Public Health.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out whatsoever!
Please stay vigilant and keep a zero tolerance with players/staff and parents who are not abiding by the
mask mandates. I cannot stress this enough as this was a big part of what got us into this position to
begin with.
Be well and wishing you all a safe, healthy and prosperous 2022.
Onward and upward!

Corby Saltzman

Vice President, AA/A
