Return to Play Aug 25th update
Submitted By Corby Saltzman on Thursday, August 27, 2020
We have been working during these unprecedented times to come up with a “Return to Play Information” for our membership. We are preparing for a return to hockey this fall as we take guidance from the Ontario Government, York Region Public Health, Provincial Health Authorities, Hockey Canada, Ontario Hockey Federation and Ontario Minor Hockey. We hope that this will provide answers to many of the questions that we have been receiving with regards to programming for the upcoming season.

All players and their families must adhere to the new guidelines shown below which will be updated as the COVID situation evolves. There will be zero tolerance for those not abiding by these new regulations and will result in suspension from the league. We appreciate all our families respecting and following these new rules and guideline as we return to play.

Please note that our Return to Play Information is subject to change at any time as the COVID situation changes.

Registration is now closed for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. We are currently taking a waiting list with a completed registration form (available for download from our website). Please forward this form to [email protected] to be placed on the waiting list.

No payment will be required until September 1. When registering, please choose the “cheque option”. We will be in contact after September 1 to arrange payment.

Program Dates and Details

Hockey will resume the week of September 21, 2020 and will run for 25 weeks. Teams will have two – one hour ice times per week.  Days of the week will vary and will include weekends and weekday ice times.

The first two weeks of hockey will be instructional only (no games will be played).

The schedule for the first half of the season will be posted by mid September. Please check our website and/or our Facebook page for updates.

Format will be 3 on 3 hockey for all players (9 skaters 1 designated goalie per team) and the focus will be FUN. Depending on registration numbers, rep players from last season will be grouped together and players from last year’s house league program will be grouped together. Depending on registration numbers, the major and minor age groups may also be combined. If registration numbers are low, we may have to combine our rep and house league players on to the same teams.

There will be NO INTENTIONAL BODY CHECKING allowed.  Spitting will not be tolerated.

No special requests for players or coaches will be honoured this season.

Staying Healthy

Everyone entering the rink will be required to complete an online wellness check (this is including all players, parents, volunteers, coaches and officials). This will be through an online app that will need to be completed two hours before arrival at the rink. The coach/trainer will receive notification that the wellness check has been completed and will do a short follow up screening at the rink. Details will be provided closer to the start date of September 21.

Due to new restrictions from the Town of Aurora, only players and ONE parent/guardian will be allowed in the rink for players born in 2010-2016 (U5, U7, U8, U9, U10, U11).
  No parent/guardian will be allowed in the rink for players born 2000-2009 (U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18, U21).

All players must come to the rink dressed in their hockey equipment except for skates. Change rooms will be open to put on skates. Goalies are to come fully dressed to the rink with the exception of helmet, glove/blocker/skates, chest protector and goalie pads. Players must bring their own FILLED water bottle (with player’s name clearly marked on the bottle) from home. No filling stations or snack bar/vending machines will be operational.

Players and one parent/guardian must arrive at the rink NO MORE than 15 minutes prior to their game/practice and must leave the rink NO MORE than 15 minutes after their game/practice.  This will allow time for proper cleaning and disinfecting from previous teams.

Face masks (covering nose and mouth) must be worn by EVERYONE entering the rink including the players. If wearing a face shield, there must also be a face mask worn underneath. Once the player’s helmet is on the face mask can be removed and must be placed in a paper bag with their name noted on the bag. Coaches must wear their face mask on the ice.

Entry will not be allowed into the rinks without a face mask…no exceptions. Face masks are MANDATORY. Hand sanitizer stations will be located at the rink and must also be used by each person upon entry to the rink.

Social distancing in the common areas and seating areas of the rink MUST be adhered to.

The main focus for the season is FUN and DEVELOPMENT

The Aurora Minor Hockey Association will be contacting families starting the week of September 1 for collection of payment for the upcoming season. Players withdrawing will be charged a $25 administration fee and if the season has started and you choose to withdraw, we will offer a prorated refund before November 1, 2020.   If the season comes to a halt for unforeseen reasons a prorated refund will be given (no admin fee).
