Welcome to the 2025-2026 U18 BB Tryouts
Hello Players and Parents.
Welcome, and thank you for participating in the 2025/2026 tryouts for the Aurora Tigers U18 BB team.
My name is Mike Charendoff, and I am proud to continue as the Head Coach of this team. I’m truly excited for the upcoming season and are confident that we can build on the tremendous success this team has had in previous years. As a team, we will work hard to perform at our best, foster strong connections both on and off the ice, and—equally as importantly—have a great time together.
Please remember that a spot on this team is never guaranteed—it must be earned. I firmly believe that a player’s will, and determination are equally as important as their hockey skills. Skate hard, complete your drills with maximum effort, and approach the tryouts with confidence!
Wishing everyone the very best of luck!
Coach Mike.
Outlined below is important information regarding the upcoming season, including details about the tryout process, schedule, and evaluation criteria. Please note the following:
─ All tryouts will be weighted equally in the evaluation process.
─ Redirects will occur on the same night as the tryout skate session, to allow released players the opportunity to attend tryouts with another center, should they choose to do so.
Our goal is to ensure a fair and transparent process for all players while supporting their continued development, whether with our team or elsewhere.
TRYOUT PROCESS
(A) Tryout Passport Required:
You must purchase a Tryout Passport through the AMHA website. If your player does not wish to try out for contact (bodychecking) teams, please ensure you select the “BB non-contact” option during registration.
(B) Schedule:
The first two tryout sessions will include a mix of hockey drills and scrimmage time to evaluate players' skills and game awareness. The final session will be an exhibition game against the Richmond hill Jaguars, providing an opportunity to assess performance in a real-game setting.
Tryout #1 Mon May 12 8:00pm – 9:30pm (ACC-1)
Tryout #2 Wed May 14 7:45pm – 9:15pm (ACC-2)
Tryout #3 Thu May 15 7:45pm – 9:15pm (ACC-2)
(C) Arrival Times:
Please arrive 45 minutes early for Tryouts #1 and #2. For Tryout #3 (the exhibition game), please arrive 60 minutes prior to the scheduled time.
(D) Check-In Procedure:
When you arrive, please go to the AMHA sign-in table located in the main lobby outside ACC-2. There you will be provided with an assigned tryout jersey for use that day. These jerseys must be returned at the end of each tryout and do not go home with players.
(E) Equipment Requirements:
All players must wear full protective equipment, including a neck guard and mouth guard. Players missing any required equipment will not be permitted on the ice.
(F) Evaluation Process:
To ensure a fair and unbiased selection process, a team of independent evaluators will assist with player assessments. Their assessments—combined with my own observations and input from independent AMHA evaluators—will collectively determine the roster for the 2025/2026 U18 BB team.
A number of factors will be taken into consideration during the decision-making process, including:
1. Skating
2. Puck Handling
3. Shooting
4. Coachability
5. Battling
6. Hockey IQ
7. Attentiveness
8. Team Play
9. Attitude
During the tryout process please do not approach the evaluators as they are focused on the task at hand. Instead, please direct any questions to me through the U18 BB website email link.
(G) Results:
After each tryout, decisions will be communicated on the team site under the “Tryout Player List” page. Please look for your player's ID number after results are posted. Your players ID number is the last 5 digits of your tryout passport invoice number (e.g. 71951) Players advancing to the next round of tryouts will find their passport ID number listed by these times.
Tryout #1 Posted mon. May 12, before 12:00am.
Tryout #2 Posted Wed. May 14, before 12:00am.
Tryout #3 Posted Thur. May 15, before 12:00am.
IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
Before accepting a spot on the team, please review the following key commitments and expectations:
(A) Financial Commitment:
The estimated cost per player is $3,000–$3,500. While we anticipate sponsorships will help reduce these fees, families should also plan for additional costs related to one away tournament.
(B) Time Commitment:
Rep hockey involves a significant time commitment. We will be on the ice 3-4 times per week, and players are expected to attend all practices and games. Absences affect not only the individual player, but the entire team dynamic.
(C) Player Positions:
All player positions are at the discretion of the Head Coach and Coaching Staff. Positions may change throughout the season based on team needs and individual development.
(D) Team Fitting:
If your player makes the team, they must attend a mandatory TigerWear Team fitting at Lion's Share Marketing Group (16610 Bayview Ave, Newmarket) which is scheduled for 7:30pm, Monday May 26.
(E) Start of Season
Although practices will officially begin in the Fall, we will host a mandatory Player & Parent Meeting shortly after tryouts. This meeting will cover essential information about the season ahead…and will be fun! (Date/Time TBC)
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email. Should you have a concern, we kindly ask that you respect the OMHA 24-hour protocol and wait before reaching out.
Thank you, and once again good luck to everyone!
Mike Charendoff
