Welcome to Minor PeeWee AE
May 5, 2018

Good News - the power is back on at the ACC. Our tryout will run as scheduled today.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Hi, my name is Mike Lane. I am both thrilled and honoured to have the responsibility of coaching the Minor PeeweeAE team. Thank you for your interest in the team.

As a father who has been through this a few times, I understand tryouts can be a stressful time for both kids and parents. Throughout the process, I am asking all to remain positive and supportive of your child, of other families, the evaluators, and the tryout process.

Important Tryout Information:   Each player, for every tryout they are invited to attend, will be assigned a tryout jersey of a specific colour and number. The jersey must be returned to me following the completion of each tryout.  Please note: goalies are required to bring their own practice jerseys.

Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without such equipment, will not be allowed on the ice.

We appreciate the tryouts are a very anxious time for all involved.  It is an extremely difficult task to select 17 players (9 forwards, 6 defence & 2 goalies) from a large group of hardworking, dedicated athletes.  Player selection will be based on each child’s competencies within the following areas:   ·

Skating ·         Puck handling ·         Shooting ·         Team play ·         Hockey sense ·         Attentiveness · Attitude ·         Desire/Effort ·         Coachability

At this time, I would like to introduce Greg Fenwick as an Assistant Coach. Greg, who has been a part of the coaching staff for the past 2 seasons, will help evaluate throughout the 3 tryouts.

To ensure the selection process is fair, there will be a team of evaluators made up of non-parental resources, assisting in assessing all players.  I would ask that you please do not approach evaluators before, during or after tryouts.

Releases after all tryouts will be made via www.auroraminorhockey.com. Your child’s passport submission ID number is the code that identifies your player. After each tryout, please visit the AMHA website to see if your child’s code is on the list of players invited to the next tryout. Tryout 1,2,3 results will be posted no later than midnight of the same day .

Tryout Dates
Fri. May 4 – 6pm-7:30pm (ACC2)
Sat. May 5 – 11:45am-1:15pm (ACC1)
Sun. May 6 – 12:30pm vs Newmarket (ACC2)

It is important to know that playing rep hockey requires both a large time and financial commitment.  This year we will be playing approximately 30 league games plus additional play-off, tournament and exhibition games.  The regular ice times have not yet been determined.  Each week there will be, on average, two to three practices and one home and one away game.  There will also be two to four tournaments (one/two out of town). Budget outlines have not yet been completed, but we expect it will cost approximately ($2000-$2,500) per player for the season.

Parents may be called upon to obtain sponsorship and/or organize fundraising activities, to help offset costs, and to support the team administratively.  There will also be a mandatory team dress code for games (tracksuits).

Once the team is picked, we will have a mandatory fitting day on Sat. May 12 from 3-4:30pm, and a parent meeting will be held on a date to be determined.

It should be clearly understood that if your child should make this team, it will be the coach’s final decision as to the positions they will be playing.

Best of luck to all! Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me 416-845-8379.
