Atom AA - Guelph Power Play "Champions"!
A week after a heart-breaking tournament final overtime loss in Montreal, the Atom AA Aurora Tigers experienced the thrill of a championship victory at the Guelph Power Play tournament, November 20th - 22nd.
The Atom AA division was comprised of the following Ontario teams; Ancaster Avalanche, Aurora Tigers, Duffield Devils, Guelph Gryphons, Mississauga Braves, Streetsville Tigers, Stoney Creek Warriors and Waterloo Wolves.
The Aurora Tigers' round robin record of 3-0-1 was good enough to earn them a berth in the semi-finals versus the undefeated Stoney Creek Warriors. Our Tigers saved their best hockey for Sunday, thoroughly dominating the play in all three periods with a 6-1 victory. Credit and kudos to Stoney Creek, who despite the score, never stopped competing.
Those efforts placed them in the finals against another team who, up to that point, was also undefeated throughout the tournament, the Waterloo Wolves. The Tigers scored first in the final and never relinquished the lead. The Waterloo Wolves battled hard throughout the game, which made for a tail-biting third period for the Tiger fans who made the trip to Guelph. In the end, the Tigers were able to hold on for a hard fought 4-1 championship win!
Congratulations to all the Tigers! On Sunday, we all witnessed what this team is capable of achieving. Onward and upward!
