Land Acknowledgment (Aurora Minor Hockey)

PrintLand Acknowledgment

“Aurora Minor Hockey Association acknowledges that the lands on which we live, work and play on today are the treaty and traditional territories of Indigenous communities. We acknowledge that Aurora is part of the treaty lands of the Mississaugas and Chippewas, recognized through Treaty #13 as well as the Williams Treaties of 1923.

As an organization, we are committed to respectfully honoring and protecting the land and its resources, as well as learning about the experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Our community is situated on the Anishinaagbe lands that have been lived on and cared for by generations are the traditional and treaty territories  of the Chippewas of Georgina Island, as well as many other Nations whose presence here continues to this day. This land is currently home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit people today.

A shared understanding of the rich cultural heritage that has existed for centuries, and how our collective past brought us to where we are today, will help us walk together into a better future.

We are grateful for the opportunity to reside in this territory.   “
