Job Title: Referee in
Chief (RIC)

Position
Overview:
The Referee in Chief (RIC)
oversees the recruitment, training, development, and scheduling of all on-ice
officials within the association. The RIC ensures that games are conducted
fairly, safely, and in alignment with OMHA rules and regulations, fostering a
positive experience for players, coaches, and officials.
Key
Responsibilities:

Recruit and retain qualified referees and lines
people for all levels of minor hockey.
·
Schedule officials for all games, tournaments,
and special events.
·
Provide ongoing mentorship, guidance, and
development opportunities for officials.
·
Monitor officiating standards and address any
performance or conduct issues.
·
Act as the primary point of contact for referees
regarding rules, assignments, and concerns.
· Communicate effectively with coaches and the
President/executive to ensure a fair and transparent officiating process.
·
Maintain accurate records related to officials,
assignments, and certifications.
·
Ensure adherence to OMHA policies, procedures,
and codes of conduct.
·
Participate in association executive meetings as
required.
Qualifications
& Skills:
·
Strong knowledge of OMHA rules, regulations, and
procedures.
·
Previous experience as a referee or in
officiating management is highly preferred.
·
Excellent communication and organizational
skills.
·
Ability to handle conflict and address issues
professionally and fairly.
·
Commitment to promoting a safe, respectful, and
positive environment for players and officials.
Time
Commitment:
·
Regular attendance at association meetings,
training sessions, and games as required.
·
Availability during the hockey season to manage
scheduling, conflicts, and mentor officials.
Reporting
To:

Association President / Executive Committee
Term:
·
Typically a three-year term, with the
possibility of reappointment based on performance and executive approval.
