Hello, my name is James Coleman and I am the head coach for the 2023-24 U13 AA Aurora Tigers hockey team. I would like to welcome everyone to the tryouts and wish them all the best.
The tryout schedule is as follows
Tuesday May 2nd, 2023 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM ACC # 1
Wednesday May 3rd, 2023 7:15 PM - 8:45 PM ACC # 2
Friday May 5th, 2023 Ex Game vs Richmond Hill 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM ACC # 2
Tryout Process
- You must be registered with the AMHA and have obtained a tryout passport from the website to participate.
- Please arrive 30 min before tryout time.
- Go to the AMHA table upon arrival at arena to check in to receive your child’s tryout jersey.This jersey must be returned at the end of each tryout and does not go home.
- Full protective gear is mandatory. Players missing equipment will not be allowed on the ice
- You must attend the first tryout to attend the second and third
- There will be a team of independent evaluators assisting me in assessing the players. The AMHA will also have independent evaluators assessing players. Please do not approach them during or after tryouts as they have a job to do.
- Communication of my decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and not in person at the arena. Your child’s passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website. Go to the U13 AA Team on the AMHA website.
- After the first tryout, results will be posted after 10:30pm same night
- After the second tryout, results will be posted after 4:00pm next day
- After the third tryout, results will be posted after 10:30pm same night
8. Our newly formed team will be competing in an exhibition game on Saturday May 6th, 2023 at 1:30pm in Uxbridge against North Durham Warriors at the Uxbridge Community Centre.
I am aware that this can be an anxious time for some players and parents. Please encourage your child by reminding them to have fun, try their best and compete in a relaxed and confident manner. Please understand that a roster spot on this team should not be assumed.
Tryout Expectations
The following are what we are looking for during tryouts:
- Skating
- Puck handling
- Compete Level
- Attitude
- Hockey sense
- Team play
- Shooting
- Attentiveness
- Coachability
The most important of these skills is being coachable. We desire players who show up everyday, with energy and enthusiasm and a desire to compete to get better. Our team will be the hardest working team in the YSMHL.
Team Expectations
- There will be a financial commitment from each family in the range of $2400 - $2900 for the season. We will be looking for sponsorships and fundraising to reduce this cost
- There will also be a time commitment required. We will be on the ice 3 to 5 times per week.
- It is expected that all players attend all practices and games.
- We will be attending 4 tournaments (with 2 being away)
- Attendance at Tigerware fitting upon making team is on Wed May 10, 7:30pm
Team Parent Positions Available
As it takes a village to raise a hockey team I will be looking to fill the following roles:
- 3 Assistant Coaches
- Team Manager
- Team Trainer (with at least one backup)
- 2 on ice practice coaches
- Treasurer
- Other roles as required (fundraising, stats etc)
I am excited for the opportunity and privilege to share in the knowledge of this great game with the players.
