Aurora Tigers U10 AA
Hello, my name is Mike Della Mora and I am the Head Coach for the 2023-2024 U10 AA Aurora Tigers. I would like to welcome everyone to our tryouts and thank you for taking the time to attend. I wish every player the best of luck!

As a reminder, the development skates begin Monday, April 24th with the four scheduled skates posted in the AMHA home page calendar. While these skates are not mandatory, it is a great chance to get back out on the ice and work on your skills.

TRYOUT SCHEDULE:

Monday May 1st, 6:30-8:00pm, Aurora CC (1 - McAlpine Ford)

Wednesday May 3rd, 6:30-8:00pm, Aurora CC (1 - McAlpine Ford)

Thursday May 4th, 6:00-7:30pm, Aurora CC (2 - McAlpine Lincoln)

TRYOUT PROCESS:

1. On the day of each tryout, AMHA representatives will be present to help with the tryout registration process. Registration will take place at the ACC prior to the tryout. Every player must have already registered for a Tryout Passport prior to the first tryout. Details can be found at https://auroraminorhockey.com/Forms/2714/2023_-2024_Tryout_Passport_-_NEW/

2. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the tryout begins and have you child ready to go on the ice on time. When you arrive at the ACC, please go to the AMHA table to sign-in and receive your child’s tryout jersey. THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT.

3.  Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players not abiding will not be able to participate in tryouts.

4.  There will be a team of independent evaluators who will be assisting me with assessing the players. The AMHA will also assign independent evaluators.  During and after the tryout, please do NOT approach the evaluators, as they have a job to do.

5.  Communication of my decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and NOT in-person at the arena. Your child’s passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website (Look at U10 AA for the team and then to the Tryout Player List page).

·        After the 1st tryout, results will be posted no later than 10:00 pm the following day.
·       After the 2nd tryout, results will be posted no later than 10:00 pm of the same day.
·       After the 3rd tryout, results will be posted AFTER 9:00 pm the same day.

Results will not be posted during school/work hours.

6. For those selected to the team, there is a mandatory team fitting for apparel, jerseys, etc, on Monday May 8th, 6:00pm at Lionshare in Newmarket.

I am aware that some players (and/or their parents) may experience anxiety during this process. Please kindly reinforce with your child that they perform at their best when feeling relaxed and confident. It is also important for parents to help manage their child’s expectations during this process. A roster position on this team should never be assumed. Let’s all make the tryout process an enjoyable one.

TRYOUT EXPECTATIONS:

The following is a list of what I am looking for during the tryouts:

·        Skating: forward and backwards · Coachability  · Hockey sense
·        Puck handling · Shooting · Attentiveness
·       Attitude  · Battling  · Team play

TEAM EXPECTATIONS:

There will be a financial commitment from each family.

  • The estimated financial commitment will be approximately $2,500 to $3,000
  • We will be looking for sponsors and fundraising to help reduce the cost per family
  • There will also be a time commitment required of each family. We will be on the ice 3 to 4 times per week with practices and games, and are typically on the ice both Saturday and Sunday. It is expected that players attend all practices and games
  • We will be attending 3-4 tournaments within the GTA and throughout Ontario
  • Our season extends all the way to the middle of April, 2024. Please make your vacation plans accordingly.

I will be looking for various parent positions including assistant coaches, team trainers etc. Please do not volunteer in advance of tryouts as these roles will be selected after the team has been established. \

All decisions about player positions are at the discretion of the coach and will most likely change during the season based on the needs of the team.

If you have a question for me, then please email me at [email protected]. If you have concerns during the tryouts or throughout the season, please respect the 24 hour rule.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you at the rink.
