Tryout Letter
My name is Chad Connelly and I am honored to be able to coach the U16AA Aurora Tigers.

Below you will find information related to the 2022/2023 U16AA Tigers Team, including information on tryout process, schedule, and evaluation criteria. I would like to thank all athletes and parents in advance for participating in the tryout process. I understand that this can be a stressful time for many families, please encourage your young athletes to do their very best and enjoy the process.

TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Monday May 2nd @ 7:45 – 9:15pm ACC 2
Wednesday May 4th @ 8:30 – 10:00pm ACC2
Thursday May 5th @ 7:30 – 9:00pm ACC2
Saturday May 7th @ 7:15 @ Newmarket Magna Pfaff

TRYOUT PROCESS:

1. You must pre-register your child on-line (AMHA Website) for the upcoming season & purchase a tryout passport.

2. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the tryout begins.

3.  When you arrive at the lobby of ACC #2, please go to the AMHA table to sign-in and receive your players tryout jersey. THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT! It does not go home.

4. Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will NOT be allowed on the ice.

5. You must attend the first tryout in order to be invited back to the second and third tryout.

6. There will be a team of independent evaluators who will be assisting me with assessing the players. The AMHA will also assign a team of independent evaluators.

7.  During and after the tryout, please do NOT approach the evaluators, as they have a job to do.

8. Communication of my decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and NOT in person at the arena. Your players passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website (Look at U16 AA for the team and the tryout page). ·

After the 1st tryout, results will be posted before 11:59 pm the same day.
After the 2nd tryout, results will be posted before 11:59 pm the same day.
After the 3rd tryout, results will be posted before 11:59 pm the same day ·
After the final tryout, results will be posted by 11:59 pm the same day.

I am aware that some players (and/or their parents) may experience anxiety during    this process. PLEASE kindly reinforce with your player that they perform at their best when feeling relaxed and confident. It is also important for parents to help manage their young athlete’s expectations during this process. A roster position on this team should never be assumed. Let’s all make the tryout process an enjoyable one!

EVALUATION

A group of impartial evaluators has been assembled, including AMHA independent volunteers. Together we will collectively evaluate players on the following core competencies;

Skating

Puck control

Shooting/passing

Positioning

Hockey IQ

Desire/Compete level

Goalie Skills

Work ethic

Attitude

After each tryout, a list of players (by their registration number/passport number) will be posted on the AMHA U16AA team site indicating players that have been asked back to the next tryout.  If a player’s registration number/passport is NOT listed, they are encouraged to attend the U16A tryouts. The 2022 -2023 roster will include a minimum of 15 skaters and 2 goalies.  Parents/Guardians of ‘released’ players are welcome to reach out via email directly to me. As outlined in the OMHA guidelines you are encouraged to wait 48 hours after the final tryout before reaching out with any questions or requests for additional feedback.

TEAM STAFF

The U16AA 2022/23 team is very fortunate to have the support of a non parent manager (Nikki Posa).  Once the team has been selected, I will be looking to add 2 assistant coaches, 1 trainer and 1 treasurer to the staff.

PLAYER POSITIONS

While I appreciate player and parent position preferences, please note that the coaching staff will determine all player positions for the upcoming season, without exception.

TEAM EXPECTATIONS

The 2022/23 season will begin in September. The schedule will consist of approximately 1-2 games per week and at least 2 practices a week. In addition, we expect to enter approximately 2-3 tournaments, 1-2 of which will be out of town. Budget outlines have not yet been completed but we expect it will cost approximately $2,000 to $2,500 per player for the 2022/23 season.

Parents may be called upon to obtain sponsorship and organize fundraising activities to help offset these costs and to support the team. Rep hockey is a serious commitment, I encourage you to give consideration to these requirements before the tryout process. While the commitments are significant rep hockey is an extremely rewarding experience for both athletes and families.

MANDATORY DATES Tigerware Fitting: May 9th @ 9:00PM

Parent Meeting: TBD

Thank you again for participating, and good luck to all players!

Coach Chad
