Welcome to the 2022-2023 Aurora Tigers U12 A team tryouts
My name is Kris French and I am looking forward to coaching the Tigers U12 A team this season.   Good luck to everyone trying out and thank you to the parents for taking the time and allowing their child the opportunity to be considered for this team.

The U12 A tryout schedule is:
Sat September 24              1:30  – 3:00 pm    ACC #1
Tues September27             7:15 – 8:45 pm     ACC #1
Wed September 28            7:30 – 9:00 pm     ACC # 2 – Exhibition Game Vs Newmarket

Tryout Process

1.      You must be registered with the AMHA and have obtained a tryout passport from the AMHA website to participate.

2.      Please arrive 45 minutes before our tryout time.

3.      When you arrive at the lobby of the ACC, please go to the AMHA table to sign-in and receive your child’s tryout jersey. THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT.  It should not go home.

4.      Full protective gear is mandatory including neck guard and mouth guard.  Players missing equipment will not be allowed on the ice

5.      There will be a team of independent evaluators assisting with player assessments. The AMHA will also provide independent evaluators to assess the players in these tryouts.

6.      Communication of my decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and not in person at the arena.  Your child’s passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website.

After each session a list of passport numbers will be posted on the 2022/2023 U12 A team webpage.  These numbers will indicate which players are being asked to return for the next tryout.
(Go to the U12 A Team tryout page on AMHA website)

·  After the first tryout, results will be posted after 10:00pm the same day

·  After the second tryout, results will be posted after 11:00am the next day

·  After the third tryout, results will be posted after 4:00pm the next day

It’s a difficult task choosing players for the team roster and tryouts can be an anxious time for all of us.  Please reinforce with your child they perform at their best when feeling relaxed and confident. It is also important parents help manage their child’s expectations during the tryout process. A roster position on this team should never be assumed. Let’s make the tryout process an enjoyable and positive experience.

Tryout Expectations
The following outlines what I am looking for during tryouts:

  • Skating
  • Effort & Compete Level
  • Coachability
  • Puck handling
  • Hockey sense
  • Attentiveness
  • Shooting
  • Team Play
  • Attitude
  • Passing

Team Commitment & Expectations

  • Playing rep hockey brings with it additional commitments in both time and money.  These should be strongly considered by each family before entering the tryout process.
  • There will be a financial commitment from each family in the range of $2500 for the season.  We have secured sponsors and will be looking for additional sponsorships and fundraising opportunities to reduce this cost.
  • We are on the ice 2 to 4 times per week.   It is expected that players attend all practices and games.
  • We are planned to attend 4 tournaments.  Toronto, Buffalo, Oakville & Richmond Hill
  • Our season extends to mid April 2023. Please make your vacation plans accordingly.
  • There will be a Tigerware fitting date to attend upon making team on Saturday October 1 @ 1:00 pm
  • All decisions about player positions are at the discretion of the coach and may change during the season based on the needs of the team.

Team Parent Positions Available
Following selection of the team, I will be looking to fill the following roles:

  • 2-3 Assistant Coaches
  • On Ice Practice Coaches
  • Goalie Coach
  • Team Manager
  • Treasurer
  • Team Trainer (with at least one backup)
  • Other roles as required (music co-ordinator, fundraising etc.)

If you have any questions for me, please email me.

If you have a concern, please respect the OMHA protocol of waiting 24 hours to contact the coach. Please contact me via email after this time. If I receive an email before this time, I will respond when the 24 hour wait period has expired Thank you and looking forward to seeing you at the rink.
