  2. Confirm your child's passport number is listed on the U12 AE – Tryout Player List page via the team's page on the website. Note: Your number appears here after the A coach releases your child.
  3. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before the tryout begins.
  4. Due to COVID, your child will be lining up outside of the ACC #2 lobby, they MUST be wearing a mask, and they MUST have their AMHA health form signed and ready to go ahead of time. This will speed up the sign-in process.
  5. ONLY ONE PARENT IS ALLOWED TO ATTEND – please do not bring siblings
    • There are NO in and out privileges; if parents leave the arena, they must wait for their player outside of the arena.
    • Proof Of Vaccination – The Town of Aurora rules state that no spectator can come into the arena without showing proof of being fully vaccinated. Please, make sure that you have proof of vaccination documents, including ID to identify yourself with the Safety Ambassador
  6. When you arrive at the lobby of the ACC,
    • Hand in our form with the AMHA Safety Ambassador located beyond the sliding doors.
    • You must sanitize at this point.
    • Please then proceed to the AMHA table to sign in and receive your child's tryout jersey.
    • THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT (It does not go home

  7. Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will NOT be allowed on the ice. Please also make sure your child brings a water bottle of their own, filled as the there are no fountains or filling of the water bottles in the change room or washroom permitted.
  8. To be invited back to the second and third tryout, you MUST attend the first tryout.
  9. There will be a team of independent evaluators who will be assisting us with assessing the players and separate evaluators for the Goalies. The AMHA will also assign a team of independent evaluators
  10. During and after the tryout, please do NOT approach the evaluators, as they have a job to do.

Redirection Communication
of our decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and NOT in person at the arena. Your child's passport submission ID number is the code that identifies you on the website

  • After the 1st tryout, results will be posted after 6pm the same day
  • After the 2nd tryout, results will be posted after 7pm the next day
  • After the 3rd tryout, results will be posted after 10pm the same day

I am aware that some players (and/or their parents) may experience anxiety during this process.
PLEASE kindly reinforce with your child that they perform at their best when feeling relaxed and confident. It is also important for parents to help manage their child's expectations during this process. A roster position on this team should never be assumed. Let's all make the tryout process is an enjoyable one!

TRYOUT EXPECTATIONS:

The following is a list of what we are looking for during the tryouts:

Players:

 Primary Skills:  Other Skills:
 Skating   Character
 Starting and Stopping  Great Attitude
 Offensive Awareness  Leadership
 Defensive Awareness  Compete

Goalies:

Skills:
 Reflexes Vision
 Butterfly Focus
 Angles Character
 Aggressiveness Rebound Control

TEAM EXPECTATIONS:

Cost: There will be a financial commitment from each family. The estimated financial commitment will be approximately $2,500 to 3,000. We will be looking for sponsorship and fundraising to help reduce the cost per family.

Commitment: There will also be a time commitment required of each family. We will be on the ice 2 to 4 times per week with practices and games. It is expected that all players attend all practices and games.

Tournaments: We will be attending approx. 3 to 4 tournaments. One tournament is expected to be away, I am looking into Niagara-On-The-Lake or Montreal as an away tournament. Bradford Blue and Gold (end of November) and the Halton Hills Memorial (beginning of Jan) have been confirmed. Depending on the team's schedule, we will investigate one other local tournament at the end of the season.

Bubble Calls: At the coaches meeting for the 2021/2022 season, the AMHA and coaches had a lengthy discussion on the topic of "Bubble Calls". For those of you new to Aurora Minor Hockey, in previous years, the coach of that specific team would contact the family of the player before the 3rd tryout who played on the team in the previous season, who is now fighting for a final spot on the current season's team. Upon discussion, the AMHA has decided that there will be NO "Bubble Calls" to incumbents for the 2021/2022 season. The rationale for this decision is that the AMHA continues to expect us as coaches to select the best skaters and goaltenders to comprise our team. The AMHA will still have independent evaluators who provide consistent discretion on individual talents on each player that is compared to our evaluations. As always, we encourage that you share this information with your child and make sure that they understand that they must always give 100% at all tryouts and all season!

We will be looking for the following parent positions:

  • Team Manager
  • 2 Assistant Coaches - (Scott Day has accepted 1 of the 2 positions, thank you Scott)
  • 1 Practice Coach
  • 1 Team Trainer / Safety Ambassador (we would prefer this person to be a backup trainer)
  • Other roles (fundraising, on-ice helpers during practices, etc.)

*** If your child makes the team, they MUST attend the Tigerware fitting on Sat, Oct 9th @ 10 am, followed by a practice on Sat. Oct. 9th 3:30pm @ ACC1 (Ford)***

If you have any questions for me, please feel free to email me. If you have a concern, then please respect the OMHA protocol of waiting 24 hours to contact the coach. Please contact me via email after this time. If we receive an email before this time, we will respond when the 24 hours wait period has expired.

Thank you,
David Grossi - eMail: [email protected]
