Minor Peewee A Tryouts
Tryout #3 Instructions,
For those players invited back for the final tryout please ensure your child brings athletic gear to the game as we will be running a pregame warm-up 45 minutes prior to our game.

Tryout process and details below...

Thank you
Coach Micah

Parents and Players,
My name is Micah Williams and I would like to introduce myself as the Aurora Tigers Minor Peewee A head coach for the 2019-2020 season. I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to come out to our tryouts.

There will be a total of three tryouts;
Tryout #1 Mon, April 29th 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM ACC1
Tryout #2 Tues, April 30th 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM ACC1
Tryout #3 - Game Thurs, May 2nd 7:45 PM – 9:15 PM ACC 2

Upon arrival to each tryout, please proceed to the registration desk to check in and receive a tryout jersey.  Jerseys are to be returned to the desk following each tryout.   All players must attend the first tryout in order to be invited back to the second and third tryout.

Evaluation Process:
The tryouts can be a stressful time for all involved; players, parents and coaches. I would encourage you to remind these young athletes to do their very best and RELAX! Anxiety seldom results in better performance. This is NOT the NHL and players, parents and coaches must remember that regardless of the tryout outcome these children will have the opportunity to play the greatest game on earth next season – hockey!

It will be an extremely difficult task choosing 17 players (15 players, 2 goalies) for the team from a large group of hardworking athletes. Player selection will be based on their individual abilities and consistency of execution within these categories:

Skating
Work Ethic
Team Play
Passing/Shooting
Positional Play
Coach-ability
Hockey Sense
Compete Level
Leadership

After each session a list of passport numbers will be posted on the 2019/2020 Minor Peewee A webpage.  These numbers will indicate which players are being asked to return, those not listed will have been reassigned to the Minor Peewee AE team.

Communication of my decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and NOT in person at the arena. Your child’s tryout passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website.

After the 1st tryout, results will be posted no later than midnight same day.
After the 2nd tryout, results will be posted after 4pm on May 1st.
After the 3rd tryout, results will be posted after 4pm on May 3rd.

Tryout Process Summary
1. You must pre-register your child on-line (AMHA Website) for the upcoming season & purchase a tryout passport.
2. Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the tryout begins.
3. When you arrive at the lobby of ACC #2, please go to the AMHA table to sign-in and receive your child’s tryout jersey. THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT! It does not go home.
4. Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will NOT be allowed on the ice.
5. You must attend the first tryout in order to be invited back to the second and third tryout.
6. There will be a team of independent evaluators who will be assisting me with assessing the players. The AMHA will also assign a team of independent evaluators.  7. During and after the tryout, please do NOT approach the evaluators, as they have a job to do.

Bubble Calls
At the coaches meeting for the 2019-2020 season the AMHA and coaches had a lengthy discussion on the topic of “Bubble Calls”. For those of you new to Aurora Minor Hockey, in previous years, the coach of that specific team would contact the family of the player prior to the 3rd tryout who played on the team in the previous season, who is now fighting for a final spot on the current seasons team. Upon discussion, the AMHA has decided that there will be NO “Bubble Calls” to incumbents for the 2019-2020 season. The rationale for this decision is that the AMHA continues to expect us as coaches to select the best skaters and goaltenders to comprise our team. The AMHA will still have independent evaluators which provides consistent discretion on individual talents on each player that are compared to our evaluations. As always, we encourage that you share this information with your child and to make sure that she/he understands that they must always give 100%, at all tryouts, and all season!

If you have a concern, then please respect the OMHA protocol of waiting 24 hours to contact the coach. Please contact me via email after this time. If I receive an email before this time, I will respond when the 24 hour wait period has expired.

Season Expectations

Coaches commitments
Promote, create and maintain an atmosphere of trust, honesty and respect
All decisions made will be based on what is best for the team
We will establish and maintain the highest standards in character, approach and performance
Coach all players to have great habits on and off the ice
Demand discipline
Create and foster a ‘we did’ (team) environment

Player expectations:
Come prepared (100% effort, 100% of the time)
Be committed to being coached and accountable to fellow team members
Follow instructions and show a commitment to improving
Make mistakes and not excuses - take ownership for your mistakes
Be a great teammate and support fellow teammates on and off the ice

Treat everyone and all facilities with respect
Demonstrate an understanding that hockey is a ‘team’ support and requires a ‘we did’ mentality

Financial and Time Commitments
There will be a financial commitment from each family, the estimated financial commitment will be approximately $2,000 to 2,500
We will be looking for sponsors and fundraising to help reduce the cost per family
There will also be a time commitment required of each family. We will be on the ice 2 to 4 times per week with practices and games. It is expected that all players attend all practices and games.
We will be attending approx. 3 to 4 tournaments (at least one being an away tournament)
I expect us to still be playing in March. So please book your holidays appropriately.

Good luck to all!
