Minor Atom AE - Tryout Information
Hello Players and Parents,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 AMHA team tryouts for the Aurora Tigers, Minor Atom AE Team!

As this year's hockey season quickly approaches, we are pleased to introduce ourselves David Grossi and Tony Cicirello as our 2019-20 Minor Atom AE Head Coaches. We would like to welcome everyone to the tryouts and thank you for taking the time to attend. We wish every skater the best of luck!

TRYOUT PROCESS:

1.  The tryout cost will be $15 per tryout payable at the gate. If you purchased a passport for Minor Atom AA or A, your passport will be honored for the Minor Atom AE tryouts. Purchased Passports are on file, however, for quick and efficient registration we ask that you have your passport number ready.

2.  Rowan’s Law - As you are aware from recent communications from our House League Convener, Rowan’s Law comes into effect this year. Please review and complete what is asked of you as it is important to complete and/or bring the signed form to the tryout. Completed and submitted forms will be honored. Your child will not be able to go on the ice for the tryout if a Rowan’s Law form is not completed or has not been processed by the AMHA. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Click Here to download the Rowans Law resource material and acknowledgement form.

3.
Please arrive at least 45 minutes before the tryout begins. During exhibition game format tryouts, please arrive 60 mins before.

4.  When you arrive at the lobby of ACC #1 or 2, please go to the AMHA table to sign in and receive your child’s tryout jersey. THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT! It does not go home.

5.  Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will NOT be allowed on the ice. Please also make sure your child brings a water bottle of their own, sharing is not permitted.

6.  To be invited back to the second and third tryout, you must attend the first tryout.

7.  There will be a team of independent evaluators who will be assisting us with assessing the players. The AMHA will also assign a team of independent evaluators.

8.  During and after the tryout, please do NOT approach the evaluators, as they have a job to do.

9.  Communication of our decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and NOT in person at the arena. Your child’s passport submission ID number is the code that identifies you on the website.

We are aware that some players (and/or their parents) may experience anxiety during this process. PLEASE kindly reinforce with your child that they perform at their best when feeling relaxed and confident. It is also important for parents to help manage their child’s expectations during this process. A roster position on this team should never be assumed. Let’s all make the tryout process an enjoyable one!

TRYOUT EXPECTATIONS:

The following is a list of what we are looking for during the tryouts:

Players:
PRIMARY SKILLS:  OTHER EXPECTATIONS:
Skating Team Play
Starting and Stopping Character
Turning and crossovers Great Attitude
Offensive awareness Leadership
Defense awareness

Goalies:
SKILLS:
Reflexes Vision
Butterfly Focus
Angles Character
Aggressiveness Rebound Control

TEAM EXPECTATIONS:

- There will be a financial commitment from each family. The estimated financial commitment will be approximately $2,500 to $3,000.
We will be looking for sponsorship and fundraising to help reduce the cost per family.

- There will also be a time commitment required of each family. We will be on the ice 2 to 4 times per week with practices and games. It is expected that all players attend all practices and games.

- We will be attending approx. 3 to 4 tournaments. One tournament may be away, we will be looking into Stoney Creek, Belleville, and Oshawa. Depending on the team's schedule we will look into one other local tournament.

- At the coaches meeting for the 2019-2020 season, the AMHA and coaches had a lengthy discussion on the topic of “Bubble Calls”. For those of you new to Aurora Minor Hockey, in previous years, the coach of that specific team would contact the family of the player before the 3rd tryout who played on the team in the previous season, who is now fighting for a final spot on the current season’s team. Upon discussion, the AMHA has decided that there will be NO “Bubble Calls” to incumbents for the 2019-2020 season. The rationale for this decision is that the AMHA continues to expect us as coaches to select the best skaters and goaltenders to comprise our team. The AMHA will still have independent evaluators which provide consistent discretion on individual talents on each player that is compared to our evaluations. As always, we encourage that you share this information with your child and to make sure that she/he understands that they must always give 100%, at all tryouts, and all season!

We will be looking for the following parent positions:

- Team Manager (This needs to be filled immediately)

- 1 assistant coach
- 1 practice coach
- Team trainer (we would prefer more than 1 as a backup)
- Other roles (fundraising, on-ice helpers during practices, etc.)

*** If your child makes the team, they MUST attend the Tigerware fitting on Monday, September 9th in one of two-time slots. ***

If you have any questions for us, please feel free to email us. If you have a concern, then please respect the OMHA protocol of waiting 24 hours to contact the coach. Please contact us via email after this time. If we receive an email before this time, we will respond when the 24 hours wait period has expired.

Thank you,
