Tigers and Nighthawks holiday cup
On December 23rd, the Aurora Tigers Minor Midget AA team and the Newmarket Nighthawks teamed up to create some holiday magic on the ice at the SARC.  It turned out to be one of the highlights of this season for the Tigers team that has only suffered 2 losses in league play!

The Newmarket Nighthawks are a member of the Special Hockey International organization. This organization was established to give developmentally challenged players the opportunity to participate in a hockey program geared to their own unique abilities.  Mainstream hockey programs do not address the social and physical needs of developmentally challenged players, so this program was developed to fill this void. They began with just a few players with one simple item in common  ...  the desire to play hockey.  There are no tryouts or skill requirements to join the team; players will learn how to skate, handle a stick, pass and shoot - all at their own pace.

This year the Tigers team brought Steven onboard to act as the "assistant trainer".  His love of the game is very infectious!  Steven is the goalie with the Nighthawks and was excited to be able to get on the ice with both his Nighthawks and Tigers teammates.

It was an exciting game between team Red and team White, with great passing, hard work and many smiles to go around.  As one Nighthawks player said " I have only scored one point so far in all of my hockey life" and then he went out and scored a goal on his next shift.  The smile on his face was priceless!  The final score was a win for all the players and their families!

Special thanks to Coach Glenn Reid and John Bryden for setting up another opportunity for the young men of the Tigers to continue to be good role models in the community, as well as a thank you to Sobeys for their community sponsorship.
