Welcome to the Aurora Tigers 2018/19 Minor Bantam MD Tryouts

April 21, 2018

Welcome to the Minor Bantam MD Tryouts.  My name is Brian Veloso your Head Coach for the 2018/2019 season.

As you can imagine it is an extremely difficult task choosing 17 players (15 players, 2 goalies) for our team from the large group of hardworking athletes that will attend the tryouts.  Player selection criteria will be based on their individual abilities within these categories:

FWD/DEF:
Sportsmanship, Attitude, Compete, Tryout/Game Preparation, Skating Ability, Passing, Shooting & Puck Control, Team & Game Play

GOALIES:
Attitude, Fundamentals, Quickness, Athleticism, Puck Tracking, Agility, Positioning, Rebound Control, Focus.

Body checking will NOT be a part of the game at the Minor Bantam MD level.

The first on ice tryout session will be open to any 2005 registered AMHA players.  The second session will include all candidates asked to return from the first ice session. The final session will be an exhibition game vs. Newmarket. All players attending the exhibition game will adhere to the AMHA and team dress codes.

Minor Bantam MD tryout schedule:

1) Friday May 4th: 7:00PM-8:30PM Aurora CC (1 - McAlpine Ford)

2) Saturday May 5th: 1:15PM-2:45PM Aurora CC (1 - McAlpine Ford)

3) Sunday May 6th: 2:00PM Exhibition game against Newmarket (Aurora CC 2 – McAlpine Lincoin)

**Please check the AMHA website to ensure dates, times, and locations have not changed.

TRYOUT PROCESS:
1. You must pre-register your child on-line (AMHA Website) for the upcoming season & purchase a tryout passport.
2. Please arrive at least 45 minutes before tryouts 1 and 2 begin. Players asked to attend the Exhibition Game will be asked to arrive at least 1 hour before game time.
3. When you arrive at the lobby of ACC 1 or 2, please go to the AMHA table to sign-in and receive your child’s tryout jersey. THIS JERSEY MUST BE RETURNED AT THE END OF EACH TRYOUT! It does not go home.
4. Full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will NOT be allowed on the ice.
5. Your child’s passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website (Look at Minor Bantam MD for the team and the tryout page).

All communication for player selections will occur via the AMHA website and NOT in person at the arena.

After each session/tryout, a list of passport numbers will be posted on the 2018/19 Minor Bantam MD webpage.

These numbers will indicate which players are being asked to return for the next tryout; those not listed have been redirected to the AMHA House League

Postings:
Tryout 1: Posted May 4th – by 11:59pm
Tryout 2: Posted May 5th – by 11:59pm
Tryout 3: Final player selection will be posted by midnight after the final tryout

The 2018/19 Minor Bantam MD team will be selected by myself and a group of AMHA supplied independent experienced evaluators.  Their assessments will be used in the selection process, and along with my input, we will select the Minor Bantam MD team.

Assistant Coaching Staff, Team Manager and Trainer will be picked after the tryout process is complete.

I am aware that some players (and/or their parents) may experience anxiety during this NEW selection process. PLEASE kindly reinforce with your child that they perform at their best when feeling relaxed and confident. It is also important for parents to help manage their child’s expectations during this process. A roster position on this team should never be assumed. The 17 best players/teammates will be selected to the Minor Bantam MD team based on player selection criteria listed above.

Mandatory Events:

Tigerware Fitting:
Tuesday May 15th from 6:00-7:30pm at Lion's Share Marketing - 16610 Bayview Ave., Unit 8

Training Camp:
Dates, times and locations TBA

Playing rep hockey requires player/parent commitment of both time and significant dollars.  This season we will play approximately 30 league games plus additional play-off, tournament, and exhibition games. Each week there could be up to two or more practices and one home and one away game.   There will also be 3-4 tournaments (one/two being out of town). Budget outlines have not been completed but expect costs to be approximately ($2000-$2,500) per player for the season.  Parents may be called upon to help obtain sponsorships, organize fundraising activities, etc. to help offset these costs.

**To be clear, if your child is selected to the team, it will be the Head Coach's final decision as to the position(s) they will be playing. **

I wish all candidates the best of luck in their tryouts.
