Tryout Information
Welcome to the 2017-2018 AMHA team tryouts for the Aurora Tigers, Novice AA squad.

Thank you for taking the time and allowing your child to attend.

Each player will be assigned a tryout jersey colour and number.  Please return this jersey following each tryout.

Kindly note that full protective hockey gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will not be allowed on the ice. Players should bring their water bottle on the ice and leave it on either bench; parents are asked to stay off the bench area during tryouts.

Please note: Should a player(s) impact another child’s ability to demonstrate their skills and/or behave in an unsafe or inappropriate manner, they will be asked to leave the ice.

Tryouts can be an anxious time for all of us. It will be an extremely difficult task choosing 17 players (15 players, 2 goalies) for each team from a large pool of talented athletes. To ensure the selection process is fair, there will be a team of independent evaluators assisting me in assessing each player. Please do not approach evaluators during the tryout.

Players will be evaluated using age specific skills and will include the following:

1) Forward Skating
2) Backward Skating
3) Puck Control
4) Shooting
5) Offensive Tactics
6) Defensive Tactics
7) Passing and Pass Reception
8) Scoring
9) Hockey IQ
10) Coachability = attitude/desire/passion/compete/work rate/heart

The Head Coach will utilise the AMHA electronic process for all player releases, players invited to continue in the tryout process will be listed by ID on the team website.

The first list of selected players will be posted after 4pm on Tuesday April 25th, 2017. The 2nd and 3rd player list will be posted by 9pm the evening of the tryout.

It is important to know that playing rep hockey requires a big commitment both time-wise and financially. This year we will be playing approximately 40 league games plus additional play-off, tournament and exhibition games. The regular ice times have not yet been determined. Each week there will be, on average, two practices and one home and one away game. There will also be 4-5 tournaments (two-three out of town). Budget outlines have not been completed but we expect it will cost approximately ($1,500-$2,000) per player for the season. Parents may be called upon to obtain sponsorship, organie fundraising activities to help offset these costs and to support the team administratively. There will also be a mandatory team dress code for mandatory on and off ice apparel for players.

It should be clearly understood that if your child is selected to the team, it will be the coach’s final decision as to the positions players will be playing.

See you at the rink!
