NON-CHECKING REP AE
Important News:Non-Checking Program
UpdateSubmitted By Chris MacEachern on Thursday, March 09, 2017

The AMHA, along with several other York-Simcoe and Lakeshore Hockey Centres, will be introducing a non-checking representative pilot program for the 2017-18 hockey season.

This pilot program will replace the former AE program for players at the Minor Bantam, Bantam, Minor Midget, and Midget age groups entering the 2017-18 hockey season. Note: The AE program will remain as-is for the Tyke, Novice, Atom, and Peewee age groups. Body checking is not allowed below the Minor Bantam age group.

The topic of removing body checking from the AE level has one that has been widely discussed and deliberated upon for years. In seeking to align with other non-checking hockey organizations within the province and around the country, this pilot program will be introduced.

As an example, in 2017-18, the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) is removing body checking at all of their "A" level hockey programs, up to and including Minor Midget age group in 2017-18.

Collectively, this pilot program will allow players to continue their development, all within a competitive hockey environment that is non-checking. Players that participate in this program will still be able to compete as an affiliated player (AP) within a checking age group. Discussions have been held to potentially include the Juvenile age group, but further research and feedback is required before this age group is included.
