Congratulations
to the Atom AE Aurora Tigers for winning the 59th Annual Peterborough Liftlock
Atom Hockey Tournament this past weekend. The Tigers came together to showcase
their effort and teamwork to, ultimately, win the championship.
The team started the weekend with a hard fought win over the West London Hawks. The Tigers fell behind early in the game, 3-0, but they rallied back to score 4 unanswered goals and earn the win. In Game #2, the Tigers faced off against the hometown Peterborough Petes. It was a tight checking game and the Tigers lost a close one, 1-0. In their final round robin game of the tournament, the Tigers showed poise and determination to earn a 2-1 victory over the Uxbridge Stars.
With a 2-1-0 record at the completion of round robin play, the Tigers earned a spot in the semi-final against the undefeated Kitchener Rangers squad. In another closely played game, the score was tied at 2 at the end of regulation. In overtime, the Tigers managed to dig deep and they scored the game-winning goal less than 60 seconds into overtime, securing their spot in the championship game against the Whitby Wildcats.
With the excitement and adrenaline of the semi-final overtime win still lingering, the Tigers scored early to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. Despite the fatigue of playing 5 games in under 48 hours, the Tigers battled hard with aggressive fore-checking, outstanding defense, and solid goaltending to hold on to the 1-0 lead until the final buzzer, winning the game and the tournament. Congratulations are extended to the players and coaches on their special accomplishment. Way to go, Tigers!
