Welcome to the 2015-16 Peewee AA tryouts.
Our tryouts will be comprised of three on ice
sessions. Please ensure that you come
prepared for your sessions, this includes
all equipment and a water bottle.
Important information about these tryouts can be found below
The first on ice session (April 26th) will not be attended by incumbent players from last season all other candidates will be on the ice.
The first session will focus primarily on skill assessment. Although not on the ice, all incumbent players will be required to attend the first tryout and participate in an off ice training session. The second session (April 27th) will have all incumbent candidates together with those candidates asked to return from the first session. The second session will primarily focus on team play with the majority of the time spent in a scrimmage. The final session (April 29th) will be an exhibition game against the Markham Islanders. I will have several experienced coaches acting as evaluators. I will use their opinions together with my own to make my selections.
After each session a list of passport numbers will be posted on our team webpage. These numbers will indicate which players are being asked to return, those not listed will have been released to the Peewee A team or in the case of NRP candidates, to their association of origin. If your child has been released and you would like to discuss this, the AMHA has instituted a 48 hour policy before this conversation can take place.
Note: Players selected for the 2015/2016 Peewee AA team will be required to attend the AA Fitting date on Saturday May 2,2015 between the hours of 12 pm and 4 pm.
Now that we are playing Peewee hockey the AMHA expects our players to adhere to our dress code which is a shirt, tie, black slacks, black dress shoes, team jacket. We will be sized for these Tigerware items on Saturday June 20th at the Tiger Fun Day, details will follow. We can expect our team budget to be approximately $2000 per player. We will arrange fundraising to help offset this cost. Our season begins approximately the day after Labour Day with our regular season games starting mid September. We can expect to participate in 3-4 tournaments with at least one being a travel tournament. As in past years, you can expect to have 1-2 practices per week and 1-2 games per week. Our playoffs begin mid January through the end of March. I expect our team to compete and be present to the end of these playoffs with the ultimate goal of winning an OMHA Championship. This being a Major year, we will be eligible to participate in the OHF Championships after winning the OMHA’s.
My coaching philosophy is based around discipline. Self discipline and team discipline. I expect my players to show hard work on the ice and off the ice. I will expect my players to be accountable for their behaviour, actions, attitude, effort and play. I am a passionate coach that cheers the success of my team, using good efforts as examples to the other team members of what is expected. I will have occasion to reprimand players for undisciplined plays, undisciplined penalties, selfish plays and poor behaviour. I do not punish mistakes, I tell my players, “it is not the mistake but what you do after that matters.” I will discuss errors made by players on the bench during a game but I will always tap then on the head and tell them lets go.
My players and bench staff will not use profane language. There will be no discussion of ice time, line combinations or special teams participation. There may be times when a player will be asked to play different positions. I expect all players to do what is asked of them to help our team win. I tend to roll my lines and attempt to give equitable ice time to all players but equitable does not mean equal. There may be times that I will select players to get extra ice time when we are trying to win, this will primarily be late in games, especially in tournament or playoff games. These decisions will be at the discretion of the coaching staff. I will provide our players and parents with our team rules at our first team meeting, with expected discipline for breaking our rules. If you do not want your son to be held to these standards perhaps this may not be the team for you. Feel free to approach me to discuss if needed.
I wish all candidates the best of luck in their tryouts. Bring your best effort and show all the coaches what kind of player you are and can be. Go Tigers Go!
