Welcome to the 2015-2016 Novice AE Tryouts!
Hello Parents,

My name is Frank Cornacchia, and I’m excited and honoured to be the head coach of the Novice AE team.    Below is the information you need to know about the tryouts, as well as what to expect for the upcoming season.

Tryout Schedule:

Tryout 1:  Thu, May 07, 6:30 PM-8:00 PM   Aurora Community Centre 1
Tryout 2:  Fri, May 08, 6:15 PM-7:45 PM Aurora Community Centre 2
Tryout 3:  Mon. May 11, 6:30 PM-8:00 PM Aurora Community Centre 2

At registration, each player is assigned a tryout jersey, which must be handed in following completion of the tryout.   Kindly note that full protective gear is mandatory, including neck and mouth guards – players without, or missing such equipment, will not be allowed on the ice. Please also ensure you have a water bottle available on the bench through the tryout as the on-ice coaches will be providing water breaks during the tryout. We will have independent evaluators assisting with this tryout process.  Please do not approach these evaluators.

Tryout Process:

At the conclusion of each tryout, the tryout jersey must be returned prior to leaving the arena. Results of each tryout this year will be performed electronically via the AMHA website tryout procedure, as follows: Shortly after the conclusion of each tryout, the results of the tryout will be posted on the Atom AE Team Website:

http://auroraminorhockey.com/Teams/1492/

Following the first and second tryout you should consult the website to determine whether a player has been invited back to the next tryout. Important Note - Only players whose Passport Number appears on the website following the tryout are invited back, otherwise the player has been released to the AMHA house league program. Following the final tryout, the passport number of those players who will be offered a roster spot on the team will appear on the website. Those who have not been offered a roster spot have been released to the AMHA house league program.

Evaluation Process:

At this level and age group, player’s skills develop very quickly.  As a result, not only will we look at current skill level, but also on potential.  So, particular interest will be placed on attitude, work ethic and compete levels.

Jersey Fitting:

Date:  Thursday May 14th Location:  ACC#1 boardroom.   Time:  6:00 -7:30 pm

For players, they are to bring one shin pad and shoulder pads.  For goalies, they are to bring their chest protector.

What to expect in the upcoming season:

As this will be your child’s first experience in the rep program, you’ll need to be aware of the time and financial commitment.  Budgets have not been finalized, but you should expect per player costs to be around $2,000 plus.  I look to enter three tournaments, with one being an out of town tournament.  Plan on two games and two practices per week.  One of our weekly practices will be devoted to power skating, with a paid outside instructor running the sessions.  We’ll also provide team Tigerwear needed to be purchased.  I’ll also request that your child attend a power skating program during the summer. We'll have a mandatory team dress code for games.  There will be opportunities for sponsorship, fundraising to help offset these costs and to support the team as well.    I will also be looking once the team is made for volunteers to assist with various positions within the team.   Should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us away from the arena.   It should be clearly understood that if your child should make this team, it will be the coach’s final decision as to the positions they will be playing.

Thanks,
Frank Cornacchia
