Welcome Letter
Dear parents and players,

My name is Dylan Da Costa, head coach for the U14 AA Aurora Tigers hockey team. I have been the assistant coach for the past couple of years and am looking forward to being the head coach for the coming season. Having grown up in Aurora, playing for the Tigers,  I am extremely excited to continue sharing my love and passion for the game. I would like to announce Lewis Hilsenteger as my assistant coach and would like to welcome everyone to the tryouts. Wishing everyone all the best.

The tryout schedule is as follows:

Monday, April 29th, 2024  -  7:30 PM - 9:00 PM  ACC #2 Tuesday, April 30th, 2024  -  8:00 PM - 9:30 PM  ACC #1Thursday, May 2nd, 2024  -  Ex Game vs Newmarket  7:45 PM - 9:15 PM  ACC # 2

Tryout Process:

You must be registered with the AMHA and have obtained a tryout passport from the website to participate. Please arrive 45 min before. (Exhibition game being an hour before). Go to the AMHA table upon arrival to check in to receive your child’s tryout jersey. This jersey must be returned at the end of each tryout and does not go home. Full protective gear is mandatory. Players missing equipment will not be allowed on the ice. You must attend the first tryout to be eligible for the second and third. There will be a team of evaluators assisting me in assessing the players. The AMHA will also have independent evaluators assessing players. Please do not approach them during or after tryouts as they have a job to do. Communication of my decisions after each tryout will occur via the website and not in person at the arena. Your child’s passport submission ID number is your code that identifies you on the website. Go to the U14 AA Team on the AMHA website.

Changes to this year’s tryouts:
1. Returning players MUST try out for the level above (AKA 1 up rule)
2. Incumbents are no longer getting a free pass to the 3rd round. We would like to see 3 meaningful tryouts.

After the first tryout, results will be posted after 11:30 pm same night.
After the second tryout, results will be posted after 6:00 pm next day.
After the third tryout, results will be posted after 4:00 pm next day.

Tryout Expectations: The following is a list of skills and qualities we are looking for during tryouts.

Work ethic
Compete level
Team play
Positive Attitude
Skating
Shooting
Passing
Puck handling
Speed
Coachability

The skills that are most important to us are work ethic and coachability. We look for players who will show up every practice and game with enthusiasm, willingness to learn and an attitude that inspires others.

Team Expectations:

There will be a time commitment required. We will be on the ice 3 to 4 times per week, plus dryland training. It is expected that all players attend all practices and games. We will be attending 4 tournaments (with 1 being  away). The away tournament will most likely be across the border. Make sure all documentation is in order. Attendance at Tigerware fitting upon making the team is mandatory and it will be on Tuesday, May 7th, 2024 at 7:30pm. There will be a financial commitment from each family in the approximate range of $3000 - $3200 for the season. We will be looking for sponsorships and fundraising to help reduce this cost.

Team Parent Positions Available Once the team is selected, I will be looking for volunteers to fill the following roles:

1 Assistant Coach
Team Manager
Team Trainer (with at least one backup)
2 on ice practice coaches
Treasurer
Other roles as required(fundraising, social committee, stats etc)

I encourage everyone to put forth their best effort as everyone will have an equal opportunity to make the team. I am excited to see what this season brings.

See you at the rink!
